Ligue 1: recruitment is going digital, but not how you think
Digital tools are transforming Ligue 1 recruitment, but not in the way software vendors promised. A status report.
The data illusion
The sales pitch is that recruitment has become a science. Algorithms, metrics, predictive models. The tools exist and some clubs use them well. But in most Ligue 1 clubs, recruitment remains a matter of network and trust. Data confirms or refutes an intuition. It does not replace it. The scout who has known the Tunisian league for twenty years still has an edge over any spreadsheet.
Where things actually change
The real shift is not in how players are found but in how files are managed. Recruitment departments need tools to track fifty conversations in parallel, store documents, and share internal evaluations. That is where digital makes a difference. Not in detection, but in managing the flow. A good sporting director receives two hundred proposals per transfer window. Without a tool to sort them, it is chaos.
The tools clubs actually use
Let us be honest: most Ligue 1 clubs rely on Excel, WhatsApp, and email. A few have adopted scouting platforms like Wyscout or InStat. Even fewer have a dedicated recruitment CRM. It is changing, but slowly. The main barrier is not cost. It is resistance to change. Scouts have their habits, and the tool has to be better than their current system for them to switch.
Where FOOTPASS fits
We do not position ourselves as a scouting tool. We are here to secure the communication and verification part. When a club identifies a player and an agent reaches out, that is when FOOTPASS comes in: verify who is on the other end, exchange documents securely, maintain a clean audit trail. Downstream of detection, upstream of signing.
